A Sacred Tradition of Remembrance — NAMCAL Annual Memorial Service 2026

NAMCAL solemnly held its Annual Memorial Service on Sunday, May 24, 2026, in a heartfelt observance dedicated to honoring the cherished memories of our departed members, loved ones, and compatriots who have transitioned from labor to eternal reward.

The annual memorial program remains one of NAMCAL’s most sacred traditions, providing members, families, and friends with an opportunity to reflect, remember, and celebrate the lives and legacies of those who contributed immensely to the organization, their communities, and the County they dearly loved. Through prayers, reflections, hymns, and words of encouragement, attendees united in solidarity and remembrance, paying tribute to the enduring impact of the deceased.

During the service, special recognition was given to members and supporters whose dedication, leadership, and sacrifices helped strengthen NAMCAL over the years. Speakers emphasized the importance of preserving the values of unity, service, and commitment exemplified by those who have gone before us.

The ceremony also served as a moment of comfort and healing for bereaved families, reminding all present that while loved ones may no longer be physically with us, their memories and contributions continue to inspire future generations.

As the organization continues its mission of promoting development and unity among Marylanders in the diaspora and back home, NAMCAL remains committed to preserving the memory and bequest of its fallen members through this meaningful annual ritual.

May the souls of all the faithful departed continue to rest in perfect peace.

You are kindly encouraged to review the attached memorial presentation, which highlights and honors the lives of those remembered during this year’s service.

Ms. Alicia Bravo Visits J.J. Dossen Hospital and Gbamenken Elementary School in Maryland County
During a recent family visit to Maryland County, Ms. Alicia Bravo took time to visit and inspect ongoing and completed community development projects supported by NAMCAL.

As part of her visitation, Ms. Bravo toured the ongoing Obstetric Ward Expansion Project at J.J. Dossen Memorial Hospital in Harper City. The project is a collaborative 70/30 initiative between NAMCAL, and the hospital administration aimed at strengthening maternal healthcare services and improving healthcare delivery within the county.

While at the hospital, Ms. Bravo inspected the progress of the expansion work and held discussions with the Hospital Administrator, Mrs. Julia Nat Doe, regarding the impact and significance of the project to the people of Maryland County. The engagement highlighted the importance of continued partnerships and community-driven development initiatives that directly benefit residents, particularly women and children requiring maternal healthcare services.

Ms. Bravo also visited the recently renovated Gbamenken Elementary School located in Karluway District, Maryland County. During the visit, she met with the school’s Principal, faculty members, and students, and toured the renovated facility. The school renovation project represents another important investment in community development and educational advancement within the district.

Faculty members and students expressed appreciation for the improvements made to the school, noting that the renovated environment will help create a more conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.

The visitation reflects NAMCAL’s continued commitment to supporting meaningful healthcare and educational initiatives throughout Maryland County and Liberia as a whole. It also provided an opportunity for direct community engagement and firsthand assessment of projects that continue to have a positive impact on the lives of the local residents.

Returning Home — A Defining Moment in NAMCAL’s Legacy

With profound pride and a deep sense of purpose, we announce that NAMCAL will undertake its first official delegation visit to Maryland County, Liberia in November 2026 — a historic and defining moment in our 24-year journey.

For over two decades, NAMCAL has worked diligently from afar to support development initiatives and uplift our beloved Maryland County. In December 2026 (December 3 - December 9), we will not only return home physically as an organized body for the first time since our inception — we will return with vision, accountability, and a renewed commitment to sustainable impact.

This visit symbolizes more than a trip. It represents legacy in motion. It reflects our growth as an institution, our responsibility to the people we serve, and our unwavering dedication to ensuring that our contributions continue to make measurable and meaningful differences on the ground.

During this landmark visit, we will engage county and district leadership, dedicate completed project(s), inspect ongoing initiatives, and identify strategic opportunities for future partnerships that align with NAMCAL’s long-term mission.

Members who wish to be part of this historic delegation are kindly asked to notify us no later than June 30. Additional details regarding travel dates and structured engagements will be communicated in the coming months.

As we prepare for this monumental step, we call on every member to remain engaged, united, and forward-thinking. The decisions we make and the relationships we strengthen during this visit will help shape the next chapter of NAMCAL’s impact in Maryland County.

Please note: Participation in this delegation is strictly voluntary, and all travel expenses will be the responsibility of individual participants.

Together, we are not just visiting home — we are advancing a legacy.

Expansion of the Obstetric Ward at J.J. Dossen Memorial Hospital
The Obstetric Ward at James Jenkins (J.J.) Dossen Memorial Hospital in Harper City, Maryland County, is nearing completion of a substantial expansion. This initiative represents a significant partnership between J.J. Dossen Hospital and the National Maryland County Association of Liberia, USA (NAMCAL, USA) and constitutes an important advancement in maternal healthcare services for the region.

The upgraded facility will feature an operating room theater, which is essential for surgical procedures related to obstetric care. In addition, the expansion is designed to accommodate more than 20 beds, thereby increasing the hospital’s capacity to serve expectant mothers and new families.

To ensure the new ward is fully equipped and operational, NAMCAL is actively seeking material support from Marylanders, Liberians, and friends of Liberia. The requested assistance includes tangible medical supplies and financial contributions. These resources are vital for outfitting the ward with the necessary equipment and supplies to deliver quality care.

Below are images that showcase the ongoing construction work, highlighting the advancements made in bringing this important project to fruition.
